If you are unable to enter a malarial area for any reason (pregnant women or immuno-compromised persons), you are still able to enjoy South Africa's big game at one of the malaria-free lodges.

Madikwe River Lodge is situated three and a half hours' drive north-west of Johannesburg, near the Botswana border. Experienced rangers will take you into the bush on dawn and dusk safaris in customised vehicles or on foot. Sixteen thatched chalets, each comprising an en suite bathroom, lounge and wooden viewing deck overlooking the Marico River, are intimately positioned on the river bank. The thatched central lodge consists of a magnificent bird-viewing deck and swimming pool with an open plan bar, lounge and dining area.

Shamwari in the Eastern Cape stretches across countryside steeped in history - since the 1800's, dwellings have stood on this land. With this in mind, the individual lodges have been restored in keeping with their original style from the colonial old Longlee Manor House to the more traditional lodge-style of Shamwari Lodge.
Enjoy spotting the big game on early morning and late afternoon game drives in specially equipped vehicles accompanied by your knowledgeable ranger. A game walk or night drive may provide the highlight of your bush experience.
